Cargo insurance

We insure your import and export goods with the insurers we represent: we compare coverage, arrange the certificate before shipment and support you if there is a claim.

Freight pays for the move, not for the value of what travels. The liability of shipping lines, airlines and carriers is limited by international conventions and calculated per kilo or per package, not by what the goods cost. If a container gets wet, cargo is damaged during handling or a truck has an accident, without insurance the difference is borne by the importer.

At Aduana Plus we are not an insurer: we are the intermediary. We represent several insurance companies that cover goods in transit and place each shipment with the one that protects it best for the goods, the route and the mode of transport. You deal with us; the policy is issued and backed by the insurer.

This insurance is designed only for international trade. We do not offer vehicle, home or personal insurance: our job is to make sure the cargo you import or export arrives protected.

How it works

We are not your insurer. We are the ones who choose it with you.

We represent several insurance companies that cover goods in transit. For each shipment we compare their terms and handle the whole process, from quote to claim.

You have a single point of contact: the same team that moves and clears your cargo is the one that insures it.

We insure

  • Imports and exports
  • Sea, air and land cargo
  • Full container, consolidated and breakbulk
  • Inland transport to your warehouse

We do not insure

  • Vehicle insurance
  • Homes and other property
  • Life, health or personal insurance

What’s included

What cargo insurance includes

We compare insurers

We quote with the companies we represent and present the option that best balances coverage, deductible and premium for your cargo. You decide with the information in front of you.

Per shipment or for the whole year

A certificate for a one-off shipment or, if you import frequently, a policy that covers your shipments for the period without quoting each time.

From your supplier’s warehouse to yours

Coverage can include the international leg, transshipments and inland transport to your warehouse, depending on what you agreed with the supplier and the policy terms.

Support through the claim

If the cargo arrives damaged or short, we tell you what to record on delivery, build the file and follow up with the insurer until the payout.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions

Is Aduana Plus an insurance company?

No. We are intermediaries: we work with several insurance companies and place your cargo with the one that covers it best. The policy is issued and backed by the insurer; we manage it and support you throughout, including any claim.

Do I need insurance if I bought FOB or EXW?

That is when you need it most. Under FOB, EXW and FCA the risk passes to you at origin and nobody else insures the cargo for you. Even under CIF the seller is only required to take out minimum cover, which leaves out many common types of damage.

Do you insure vehicles or homes?

No. We only insure international trade goods while in transit. For vehicles, homes or personal insurance you should go directly to an insurance company.

How much does it cost to insure a shipment?

It depends on the value, the type of goods, the packaging, the route and the mode of transport, so we quote each case. Send us the invoice and the route and we will reply with the premium and deductible.

What should I do if my cargo arrives damaged?

Before signing for delivery, note the damage on the delivery receipt, take photos of the cargo and packaging, and let us know the same day. With that we prepare the claim with the insurer and the carrier.
